Never Knowing when to shut up!
Since ‘Rip-Off Republic’ ended this evening hopefully this will be the end of the whole Eddie Hobbs phenomenon. I’ve had a lot of fun though, the high rating on Google for the ‘Eddie Hobbs’ search term has meant lots of visitors, most of them angry with me not loving the man himself. Just one comment on tonight’s show, not so much about Eddie Hobbs but more about the constant bias at RTÉ that I regularly complain about.
As has been said elsewhere Hobbs never mentioned how much the RTÉ licence fee is but that’s not even what really got me going this evening, rather Hobb’s closing remarks. Hobbs decided to say something to the effect that Irish people have a choice whether to be like ‘North America’ with every man for himself or have a different kind of society. To be honest I don’t like US society in it’s entirety but I’ll be damned if I’m going to let RTÉ become the moral guardians of what type of society we should have. That’s the country’s decision as a whole, you can’t have the state broadcaster coming out and saying one society is better or worse than the other. Also what the hell did Hobbs mean by ‘North America’ does the man not realise that Canada is a very socialist society? Yet again we have poor (or misleading research) on display.
So if we have an American society - fantastic! It has stacks of benefits, as James’ post today illustrates.
Dave
Canada might be socialist compared to the States but not compared to Europe (minimum wage in Ontario is about 5 euro an hour!)
