Never Knowing when to shut up!
I mentioned the other day that I had switched network to Meteor to enjoy the huge savings it offers. It appears I’m not the only one who has switched. Barry O’Donovan switched too and has compiled a table of the savings he’s enjoying on their pre-pay packages.
I moved from Vodafone pre-pay to Meteor Talk 60, basically this means that I get 60 minutes of calls to any UK or Ireland phones for my €20. Then after that calls (besides International) cost 20c per minute which is extremely cheap. On top of that Meteor to Meteor texts are free and even better is that for me to send a text message to a Vodafone user is now cheaper than it was when I was on Vodafone, which is insane!
The reason I even considered looking into the costs was because I was listening to ‘The Last Word’ and they were talking about how much roaming costs and how Meteor was so much cheaper than the global companies of o2 and Vodafone and how insane this was.
So anyway I’m delighted I made the switch!
Meteors are by far the cheapest network for everything!
Peak /off peak calls–Meteor Anytime- 20c pm all day every day!
In-network calling-only 5 c per minute with Meteor–compare an O2 to O2 call, or a Voda to Voda call!-particularly at peak times.
Tests: Meteors new 5 c text bundles are the best!-after you use the inclusive texts it goes back to the normal 9c text rate, which is still the cheapest non-subscription rate in ireland
International Texts: only 15 c with meteor!. 25c with the other two
International Calls-only 50c per min to most countries with Meteor. This is cheaper than what Voda/o2 charge to make mobile & national calls within Ireland!. Means its cheaoer to call my friend in australia on his mobile with a meteor phone than it is for a Vodafone customer to call another irish mobile!!! Shows how expensive Voda is!
Roaming. Metor just introduced inclusive UK roaming, priced the same as O2 rates. However once you register a credit card with them and top up your a/c to 60 euro you get your roaming turned on. You can roam in virtually any country at the most competitive prepaid roamign rates. In fact Meteors prepaid roamign rates are comparible to the rates that postpay customers on voda and O2 enjoy. In addn texts are only 30 c while roaming with meteor, compare to 39c with O2 and 65c with voda.
Also I have enjoyed getting 10 euros extra free each month for the past 10 months!—just for topping up by 20 euro in one go, which i would have done anyway!.
Meteors coverage is also excellent!, they have invested heavily in their network, and in areas where they do not yet have transmitters of their own i can roam on the O2 network. So here in my home in Cork, i roam on O2 and pay Meteors great rates, whereas my sisters are with O2 and pay far more than I!!. Now thats what i call fantastic!
Also their new voicemail system is excelent–stores more messages for longer, PLUS in addn to getting a text letting you know you have vmail a REAL ICON appears on your mobile screen…….so you know when you have uncheaked msgs!.
Customer care is also excellent, and you rarely have to wait for the call to be answered!—unlike Voda!
Meteor is the way forward!
I wonder how the new entrant “3″ will manage to compete with them!. Do Irish customers really want to see each other on screen when they call each other!. From now on do people want to say “Can you see me, can you see me??” instead of ” can you hear me, can you hear me”!!!!
We shall see!!
Go Meteor!
Hi
I use a work meteor. But changed my other phone back to vodafone with coverage problems in Portmarnock last Xmas. Does anyone know if this has got better?
Hi Vincent,
Coverage is PERFECT!. Give it another go!!!……save money!
Over the weekend while sending mms pictures to my email, I decided to try and send an image from my email the email address that each meteor customer is allocated e.g. 353857202355@mms.mymeteor.ie and it went straight to my mobile. As long as its a jpg and about 20kb or less.
Also don’t know if you use gmail or not but I’m now forwarding my gmail straight to my mobile which is dead handy and free. Aven’t heard anyone talking about this so hope it’s useful to you if you hadn’t already found out about it.
3 have better coverage (I think) and only charge 3c per minute for on-network voice and video calls, 3c for texts to any network, you get 2MB free mobile web browsing every day, most of the videos (including the world’s first mobile football TV channel) are completely free, Planet 3 (a bit like Meteor Stuff but faster) is free to browse, and you get more credit for your money (When you buy a €40 topup, 3 give you €48 credit). Plus they’re a 3G network, which says it all. Meteor didn’t even bother getting a 3G licence!
Meteor UK roaming is 99c per minute, however 3 UK roaming is 35c per minute.
And I’m not so sure that texts on Meteor Bill Pay are free…
Stephen not everyone wants 3G. I actually do at this stage but I’ll probably stay away from 3. Their pricing is brilliant, but I want to be able to go to any website I want but what I’ve heard is that with 3 you are limited to the content they allow you to access? Can you tell me whether I’m right or wrong?
I doubt you’re right on the better coverage aspect. Meteor will get a 3G licence too. They shouldn’t but they will. Smart have the 4th 3G licence but they are in the process of having it stripped from them by the regulator.
Have you heard about the new mobile service for overseas calls? At the moment it’s just for 02 users (bill pay and prepay). It seems almost too good to be true, you dial a number (in my case to Australia) 1512 77 88 38 and you can prepay anything from 35c to about €3, the more you prepay the cheaper it is. The most expensive is 7c per min and the cheapest is 5c per min, 24/7. This is much cheaper than a land line or a call card. The website is www.call15.com
In relation to Stevens mail, a few points to make:
1.) 3’s on-net call offer of 3c per minute is only until September at which point it will rise to 25 c.
2.) 3’s on-net text offer of 3c is also only until September. It will then rise to 9c. No match for free on-net texts with Meteor.
3.) Meteor do not offer a bonus on top-ups like 3 but you do get more minutes euro for euro as calls are so much cheaper.
4.)It’s not that Meteor “didn’t bother” to get a 3G licence but rather they were out bidded by Smart Telecom. However an arrangement will eventually be made to allow 3G technology for Meteor customers. Even though this share of the market is still negligible. Also 3 do not have a UMTS, GPRS or GSM network. They pay rent to use vodafones network.
5.) Meteor to Meteor texts are indeed free on Meteor postpay.
6.) Meteor’s roaming charges will be abolished before the end of September making them much cheaper than 3.
I own a company in Cork and we have 25 mobiles. I had them with Vodafone for 4 years then O2 for 1 year. I switched to Meteor in July ‘06. I must say that initially I was sceptical about coverage. Thankfully, all my drivers and I am extremely happy with the service and we are saving roughly 35% on bills versus O2. I would recommend having a look at them.
I have been with Meteor for 2 years and I have to say that when I first got Meteor there coverage was “patchy” at best and non-existent in most areas not only that but you had to actual keep checking your phone to see if it was in coverage as
Now however Meteor has perfect coverage I got a Meteor phone that cost me €69 but got €130 call credit free great!
Wh
I know a couple of and on Meteor Anytime International Prepay it costs on 9c per min to call either landline or moblie anytime to eastern europe and china and max 25c per min to most other countries
So it’s cheaper to call China on a mobile with Meteor than it is for a Vodafone to call Vodafone that madness
Go to www.meteor.ie go to Pay As You Go Price Plan, and then go to Anytime International
I’m an ancient and only need to use my mobile in an emergency, so use pre-pay on Meteor.ie. But I cannot make calls at the moment as I have not topped up my phone in the last 6 months. Apparently I need to put 10€ on it every 6 months. Obviously there is money already there so it never occurred to me to put more on! Are there any pre-pay networks that leave you to look after your own payments?
