Never Knowing when to shut up!
Via Waxy Links I got to this really really cool Bittorrent Visualization tool.
Really gimmicky, but a really cool way of showing just how BT works and the benefits of it!
You can see that the bar in the centre of the circles shows how much of the file the seeds/leechers have downloaded. If you start the app from scratch you can add as many or as few seeds as you want and see what happens. For the shot above I added 3 seeds and 5 leechers and you could see the seeds distribute to the leechers and then the leechers begin to distribute the file among themselves.
I’m downloading a huge Muse at Glastonbury DVD at the moment using Bittorrent so I wonder could I recreate the way the seeds/leechers ratio is at the moment for my download?
ideally it would be able to run off live bt data, but you don’t get enough information from each peer to be able to do that, so people would need a special client (or maybe an azureus plugin) to provide that information.. alternatively it could be run on log data of previous torrents.. this is as far as I could get it in half a semester.
Regardless it’s unbelievably cool! Well done and I’m checking out the rest of your site, which seems just as cool!
