I was reading this thread on P45 and decided to do a search on Yahoo! to see how it compares to Google in relevance. So I picked the search term I’m obsessed with “Irish Rugby News” and got the following results. As you can see, the first search term is really outdated, and the best links for the search term aren’t found until positions 6 and 10. Google does much better on this term.

When I thought a bit more about the results, I noticed that the number one result was hosted on Geocities which is owned by… Yahoo! So I decide to Yahoo! for “English Rugby” and surprise, surprise a Geocities site is high up the results again!

What gives? Is Yahoo biased towards their own site? I know I’ve only done two searches but contact me if you see any other similar things. I guess this means I’m staying with Google.
