Why Internet Radio Rocks

Actually it doesn’t so much rock as talk! We get radio here of course but to be honest it’s pretty crap. All I ever listen to is TodayFM, and even then that consists of listening to Ian Dempsey in the morning (almost exclusively for Gift Grub) and maybe an occasional listen to The Last Word (although not so much since Eamonn Dunphy is gone). If I don’t have my iPod and I’m in the car on my own I envitably spend the whole journey either listening to an unbelievably crackly version of Radio 5 Live or searching the static in vain for an unbelievably crackly version of Radio 5 Live but now with the Internet I get to listen to crisp clear talk radio! My favourites at the moment are NPR and the afore mentioned Radio 5 Live.

It’s sweet being able to listen to things like NPR. There is no other way I could listen to American Radio. I can just about listen to Radio 5 Live but on the Internet it’s clear and uncrackly! NPR is brilliant. There’s often interesting items mentioned that don’t seem to surface elsewhere. As far as I can figure out almost all the past shows are archived and with the broadband connection I can listen to whatever I want while I write inane stuff like this! My favourite show is definitely Fresh Air. Recently it’s been in the quasi-mainstream media a lot recently. I stumbled upon it when Bill O’Reilly apparently (according to himself) was given a hard time by Terry Gross. O’Reilly claimed he was hard done by but to be honest I can’t agree. In the last 10 minutes Gross goes on the offensive a bit but O’Reilly flips his lid when she goes on to a specific topic, I can’t even remember what it was. Of course O’Reilly kicked up a fuss and that’s how I found out about Fresh Air. Next time I crossed paths with Fresh Air was the Matt Groening interview which caused huge ripples in the inane item category in all media from Slashdot to The Sunday Times. Groening said that Fox News tried to sue the Simpsons which may or may not be true, but even besides that the whole interview was really interesting again. Currently I’m listening to an interview with someone or something called Triumph, The Insult Comic Dog. Never heard of it/she/he before but it’s really interesting, again without Internet Radio there is no way I’d hear something like this!
