Never Knowing when to shut up!
We finally got our broadband last Thursday from Netsource. It’s been a long long time coming but it’s great that finally there is a company willing to give affordable broadband to the people of Ireland.
I chose the SOHO Business Broadband option which works out at €55 + VAT each month. Since we were already paying approximately €40 for the line rental on the second line and Surf-No-Limits it’s not that much more expensive to get DSL since we don’t need the 2nd line.
For installation we chose the Self Install option which was simple. It’s amazing what they’d try and charge you to do 2 minutes work!! And there was no way I was paying their prices for a modem either so we got the D-Link DSL-504 DSL Modem/Router/Hub which is sweet since not alone is it a modem but it is a router for sharing the connection across the network and on top of that it is a network hub also. The DSL-504 only cos €148 from ITDirect in Dublin!
So I’m a happy camper, affordable, uncapped broadband and I’m giving even less money to Eircom, how sweet is that!
Is it really uncapped?
I phoned them today and they said something about a 16GB limit. I’m waiting for them to email me the details of the Ts&Cs.
So far I have yet to find a true, reasonable priced uncapped ISP short of getting a dedicated pipe or no contention ratio promised (Hi SmartTelecom), opening you up for some fun ISP packaging…
Netcom runs the standard “fair use” deal which allows them to do funny things with your line as they wish, when they wish.
I sure do miss living in a Western World country where you can actually get a REAL Internet connection (say for example 10MB down, no caps for €25 a month, hello Sweden, as example). As usual Ireland’s lack of competition and development is showing…
Long liv rip of Ireland.
